Jamhuri Day (Republic Day) is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on 12 December each year.[1] Jamhuri is the Swahili word for “republic” and the holiday is meant to officially mark the date when Kenya became a republic on 12 December 1964, one year and six months after gaining internal self-rule on 1 June 1963 (Madaraka Day) from the United Kingdom.
AMKENI is a Community Based Organization with its headquarters in Malindi, Kilifi County, Kenya. We work with and offer services to the Gender and Sexual Diverse population as well as Sex Workers.
AMKENI was founded in November 2009 as a support group for MSM/MSW, and was officially registered as a CBO in March 2013, tasked to create a safe space for Gender and Sexual Diverse Population and Sex workers to provide or link them to access to low cost social, legal and health services including psychosocial and mental health support
